Has it really been a year since I hit the publish button on this blog?! It sounds funny, but it felt like such a bold move at the time. I was nervous to try something new, to step out of my comfort zone, to be vulnerable. But starting this blog journey has been one of the best decisions I’ve made! It’s helped me gain confidence through trying new things. It’s helped me re-discover my city. And most importantly, it’s opened doors to meeting amazing & inspiring Houston creatives!
I had never planned on being a blogger. I’m not much of a writer (even though I really enjoy it). It helps me tune in and see my thoughts clearly. I’m not much a photographer. I need majjjjorrr lessons on editing & even more lessons on how to even operate the camera tools. Blogging first started out as a hobby. I thought it would be a fun way to share with friends and family things I love and places I enjoy going to. I had seen girls around my age starting blogs and even making some money from it so I decided to look into it. To my surprise the easy part was buying a website! A website only cost me $10 a month so I said WHY TF NOT! YOLO, ya know?!
The hard part: configuring the website to actually look like a website… LOL I quickly realized I was in over my head with new technology. I bought the website in January, started collecting content the next few months, and then finally hired help on how to manage my site & make it look pretty b/c MY WORD this site was not easy on the eyes…this all took about 4 months to do. Most people can accomplish a website release much quicker than that but like i’ve said before, I am NOT tech-savvy at all so it took me a minute.
Soooo I’m gonna be honest here. There is a bit of a grammar issue with my brand name. I came up with this name because I liked the thought of this blog being for the MisFits of the world. I didn’t want to create this “picture perfect lifestyle blog”, I wanted it to be a little rough around the edges. Like me 🙂 I also thought it would be fun to add a personal touch to the brand name by mixing my newly-wed last name in there! (Fitzgerald) So I came up with MrsFitz Behavior. The only problem is, Mrs. is not pronounced like Ms.! UGHHHH. Uber frustrating. But I stuck with it nonetheless.
When I started creating content I mainly shared posts about restaurants I enjoyed going to, trendy styles I’m into at the moment and even added a few posts of some personal topics like Anxiety in there. To my surprise, y’all really dig the personal topics! According to my stats, my blog post about Anxiety is my most clicked on page. So I’m taking note of that, and will be posting more personal discussions in the future…so stay tuned! The personal posts are the most challenging to write but they are so important to share. I want to share with y’all that I’m not just a happy-go-lucky person all the time, and I go through struggles just like anyone else. The great thing about social media is that it can makes us realize how alike we all are and can connect us with people we may have never had the chance to meet.
Along with personal topics, I’ve come up with a continually growing list of hot spots for eating, drinking, and exploring in Houston. No matter how many places I check off my list, there always seems to be more & more I add to it! These posts are easier to write about but do take more time since I have to physically GO to the restaurant or event and then review it for you all. Luckily, it’s fun work! I’ll just keep doing the research around town if y’all keep reading 😉
DO I MAKE MONEY FROM BLOGGING
This is a question I get quite frequently. A ton of people are curious if these sort of things really do make money or if it’s simply just a hobby. Well, I’m lucky enough to have a full time job that supports me and pays the bills. But of course I would love for this blog to be successful and make money as well! So far, I make minimal money from my blog, just enough to pay for the occasional date night with the hubby. I also get offered free products from time-to-time from companies who are trying to grow their market audience. I will share with you guys my honest opinions on places & products and stay true to my brand. It’s important to me to be able to stay authentic through my posts and only make money if it aligns well with my blog brand. So for now, it’s not much of a money maker but I am hopeful for the future!
ONE YEAR LATER
So over this year of blogging I have reviewed my website stats and I get to see what post are most popular, how many clicks each page gets, and where my followers are from. It’s so cool to see that people from all over the world read my blog! I have clicks from Costa Rica, France, Russia, Brazil, China, Sweden, Nigeria, India, the UK, Australia, Canada, Malaysia, the Netherlands….honestly the list goes on!! Nowadays MrsFitz Behavior has 25 blog posts and 150+ followers and I’m SO thankful for each and every one of you! If you’re reading this post and not following along, do your girl a solid & push that Subscribe button for me 🙂

Special thanks to my loving husband for supporting me with my blog and all that comes with it! He’s the man behind every candid instagram photo, the one who’s always down to try a new restaurant, and keeping me sane just when I feel like technology is kicking my ass. You a real one babe.
Thank you guys for following along during this first year of Mrsfitz Behavior!!! I promise you it’s just the beginning!
